What to watch on T.V

Reality shows are the next best thing on TV. A national daily editorial page had read last week. I see fellas around me setting reminders on mobile phones for watching the Music Reality Shows like Indian Idol or the others. They are a craze. But who asked for the NEXT best thing. We already had.

Last year we had something good on television though. Lead India. This was happening for the first time on Indian TV - with motifs set as high as finding youth leaders for India. But this dint go down well with the Indian audience - one which has been and being demolished and dilapidated and ransacked of its values, ethics, lifestyle, motives and ambitions by the K-soaps and the always bogging news entertainments.

We have a show called " We the People" on NDTV. We have a channel called Travel and Living. We have "India Questions", again on NDTV. All these things are, and were already there, since times Indian Reality Show wasnt even in the blastula stage.

I wonder one thing - why do the people I see forget, or gladly give way, to watch The Lead India Show, or The Siddharta Basu Quiz or the Barkha Dutt Show, when they do not forget the scream and be sentimental about the anchors and judges on Saregama.

My comments - Reality shows are good. They may be entertaining. But they never inspire. Television, specially in India, should be aimed to turn couch potato jelly-filled Indians to high thinking, focussed Indians.
